Barking SMET (Substance Misues Engagement)
SMET is an outreach team aimed at engaging hard to reach substance misusers in the treatment system. This is achieved by visiting clients at home or elsewhere in the community and assessing their needs to identify how we can support them in engaging with appropriate services. SMET do not provide treatment, but do motivational work, harm minimisation, onward referrals and support in accessing other services.
SMET needs committed volunteers to support the delivery of outreach services. Full support, training and the opportunity to gain a recognised accreditation are available.

Volunteer - CRi Brent Outreach and Reach Support

Ambulatory Detox – CRI Brighton
The ambulatory (out-patient) detox is a two way treatment programme for people who have been unable to reduce or stop heavy drinking, or for those currently using alcohol at such high levels that to stop drinking without the aid of a medically assisted detoxification could be dangerous. The purpose of the programme is to provide a clinically-supported community detoxification.
The programme is abstinent based. The first week is held at Millview Hospital. The second week is held at Vantage Point, Brighton where you will be part of a team working with the clients on the group-work programme, designed to support clients in consolidating and building on the changes made possible by having completed the first week. We will provide full support and supervision.

Brighton - CRI Counselling Service
CRI Counselling Service Brighton has an opportunity for volunteers to train as Alcohol Counsellors. Qualified or currently in training, successful candidates will be offered a comprehensive training programme, run on Fridays and Saturdays which commences in January and concludes in February 2009. Upon completion of training, counsellors will commence a placement with CRI Counselling Service in Brighton with a minimum of 3 hours per week. Group supervision and ongoing continuous professional development are all part of this exciting opportunity.

Brighton - Rough Sleepers Street Services Team
We carry out assertive outreach work targeting people sleeping rough on the streets of Brighton and Hove, people who drink alcohol or use drugs on the street and people who beg for money from passers by. This is achieved through early morning outreach during the week in addition to daytimes and evenings.
Our aim is to support people to get off the streets and into accommodation working alongside other agencies such as: hostel and supported accommodation providers, mental health team for the homeless, Street Community Policing team and local authority.
Roles previously undertaken by volunteers include: accompanying outreach workers on street shifts, attending drop-in sessions at daycentres, facilitating service user feedback from residents in hostels and assisting with administrative duties.
We will provide full support, supervision and accredited training to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Cumbria Harm Minimisation Service - Carlisle
Cumbria Harm Minimisation Service provides support to people actively engaged in the use of substances via open access needle exchange services both in-house and pharmacy based. We provide sterile equipment for using substances and a confidential environment for used works to be returned and disposed of safely. The service also provides advice and information on a wide range of issues such as safer injecting, blood borne viruses, overdose, treatment etc and signposting to a variety of local support services.

Ealing DAIS - Volunteer Counsellors & Project Volunteers
Ealing DAIS Provides a flexible confidential treatment and support for adults living in the Borough of Ealing with substance misuse issues. Ealing DAIS provides Tier 2/3 services that include Drop – in, Outreach, 1:2:1, Keyworking and Counselling, specialist group work including Women’s groups, Stimulants and Relaxation. We also provide alternative therapies and a Needle Exchange and Health Care Nurse. The service also provides advice and information/onward referrals and support in accessing a variety of other local support services. We are a very busy Project with great clients and a Fabulous Team

CRI services in Essex have a need for volunteer counsellors who can commit to providing counselling for individuals with substance misuse problems on a weekly basis. Volunteers must be suitably qualified or training and must be affiliated with a relevant professional body. Hastings and Eastbourne Substance Misuse Service
Location of voluntary work: Hastings and Eastbourne
The Hastings and Eastbourne projects provide support to people actively engaged in the use of substances via open access needle exchange services both in-house and pharmacy based. We provide clean sterile equipment for using substances and a confidential environment for used works to be returned and disposed of safely. The service also provides advice and information on a wide range of issues such as safer injecting, blood borne viruses, overdose, treatment and signposting to a variety of local support services. CRI is a non-judgmental service that works to advise, inform, empower, encourage and support the needs of people actively engaged in substance use. The aim of the projects is to reduce the negative impact of substance use upon the individual and their community by promoting and encouraging safer injecting practices and the safe disposal of drug using equipment. We also work closely in partnership with the Sussex Partnership Trust (NHS) as well as the Probation Service to deliver treatment and court ordered group work programs.

Hull Drug Intervention Programme
The Hull Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) provides support for adults with substance misuse problems and who have had recent involvement in the criminal justice system. Support is offered on a voluntary basis, alongside support that complies with national standards or bail conditions. The Hull DIP offers individuals support on a one to one basis. This would be in the form of assessment, onward referrals, harm minimisation advice, psycho-social interventions, motivational work and practical support.
