Cumbria Alcohol Arrest Referral Scheme works in partnership with Cumbria Constabulary to deliver a brief assessment and intervention scheme to arrestees with alcohol misuse issues. The service is offered to all adults who have been arrested either under the influence of alcohol or with alcohol related offenses. Individuals are offered the opportunity to engage in a 1:1 appointment with an alcohol arrest referral worker in the community based drug and alcohol service, in either Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven, Barrow-in-Furness or Kendal. The scheme is funded by the Home Office, as part of the second phase of a pilot scheme.
Individuals arrested within Cumbria can make a voluntary referral to the scheme, or have the intervention enforced as part of conditional bail or conditional caution conditions.
