The Vale of Glamorgan IOIS

Who we are

CRI have been commissioned by The Wales Probation Trust and The Drug intervention regional board to provide the IOI service in the East of South Wales covering Cardiff, The Vale of Glamorgan Rhondda Cynon Taff and Merthyr Tydfil. This new service commenced on 1^st April 2012

The IOI contracts are made up of three key functions

• Provision of statutory DRR, ATR and AAR interventions.
•  Provision of an IOI prescribing and clinical interventions service.
•  Provision of Drug Interventions Programme case management and   functionality.

What we do

The service is designed to accommodate;

• Dependant adult problematic substance mis-users.
• Individuals motivated to change their behaviour.
• Those in contact with  Criminal Justice services 
• Individuals recently released from Prison.
• Those with mental and physical capacity to undertake treatment
• Those addressing their alcohol misuse whilst serving a Alcohol Activity Requirement or an Alcohol Treatment Requirement

Components of treatment

• Harm Reduction work
• Assessment for suitability for treatment
• Engagement/Re engagement
• Care Planning /Recovery Planning –working on an  individuals Recovery journey[1-2-1]
• Opportunity to access group work programmes/Peer support groups / mutual aid groups
• Exit plans – on-going short term support with IOIS – Voluntary Client
• Referrals out of Criminal justice services 
• Substitute Prescribing

VOG IOIS attended the Safer Vale Funday and held a stall with leaflets and staff on hand for anyone to speak to, this was in conjunction with The Safer Vale Partnership, and was held on Sunday 7^th October 2012 at Barry Police Station.

The open day was an event where local services that work in partnership showed the public how they work together to keep the Vale of Glamorgan safe.

The Aims and Objectives of IOIS

• To provide integrated care for drug (DIP and DRR) and alcohol (AAR and ATR only) dependant offenders entering and leaving the Criminal Justice System (CJS) on an integrated offender management (IOM) model;  from the point of arrest through to the end of sentence (community and custodial) in accordance with locally agreed treatment assessment and throughput protocols.
• To break the destructive cycle of drugs/alcohol offending and prison.
• To increase the proportion of individual offenders successfully completing treatment programmes by providing end-to-end CJS care co-ordination through sentences and beyond.
• To engage and involve individuals in a range of services according to their identified need and risk; and facilitate their involvement by means of an integrated offender management approach i.e.  effective information sharing and a joint care planning approach
