Gwent DIP provides a throughcare and aftercare service for Class A drug users who have come into contact with the police and criminal justice system due to their drug use. This includes being arrested for possession, receiving a fixed penalty and caution or a charge leading to a court appearance. Class A drugs are cocaine, heroin and crack cocaine.
CRI Gwent DIP provides a single point of contact for the police, probation service and prisons allowing a seamless route from custody to community.
The service provides the opportunity to individuals involved in the criminal justice system to make positive, effective, lasting and realistic improvements to change their lives for the better.
This is demonstrated by working collaboratively with partner agencies and providing a holistic approach. The approach encompasses:
- joint assessments
- individual care planning
- one-to-one key work
- drug testing
- substitute prescribing
- diversionary activities
- alternative therapies
