DRR Gwent - Newport

Who we are

CRI Gwent DRR/ATR/Generic is a drug rehabilitation requirement, alcohol treatment requirement or a specified activity aim to bring persistent and dependent drug misusing individuals into a closely supervised multi-agency programme of treatment.

The aim is to offer support, advice and interventions to break the links between drug/alcohol misuse and offending to enable individuals to make positive changes in their lives.

CRI was commissioned by Gwent Probation in April 2009 to provide the DRR/ATR/Generic service in Gwent. We cover the five boroughs of Gwent: Newport, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Monmouth.

The team has one service manager, one team leader, one project nurse, seven project workers and a project administrator. We also offer volunteers and sessional workers the opportunity to develop and gain experience to enable progression into employment.

We work in close partnership with Wales probation to provide support, motivation and interventions to enable individuals to reduce drug and alcohol related offending. We aim to deliver a quality service tailored to individual needs by offering:

- joint assessments
- individual care planning
- one-to-one key work
- drug testing
- medically assisted recovery
- diversionary activities
- alternative therapies
- on-site dispensing

The service provides the opportunity to individuals involved in the criminal justice system to make positive, effective, lasting and realistic improvements to change their lives for the better.

This is demonstrated by working collaboratively with partner agencies and providing a holistic approach.
