HOMER Andover

Who we are

Hampshire Operational Model For Effective Recovery (HOMER) provides a flexible treatment and support service for those over the age of 18 years with a focus on recovery and community reintegration.

The Andover hub is accessible to service users, families, carers and anyone affected by substance misuse issues residing in the immediate Hampshire area.

This service offers a range of interventions based on the Recovery Model.

The service aims to enable people to reach their full potential as individuals and community members. Individuals will be encouraged to make positive changes and to lead meaningful and purposeful lives.

Staff, peer mentors and volunteers will be available to assist people on their recovery journey and ensure service users have an active voice in their treatment options and in the wider community. The service includes:

- One to one sessions working with psychosocial interventions, motivational interviewing and brief interventions - Group work where service users can not only learn but are encouraged to share their experiences of success - A drop-in that offers a warm non judgmental welcome and a safe environment, 6 days per week - Support for carers, advice and information when supporting others. - Shared care support to service users who are prescribed via their GP surgeries. - Complimentary therapies i.e. acupuncture which is evidence based - assisting the reduction of withdrawal symptoms for stimulant users - Outreach, enabling all clients the opportunity to access services when transport is difficult in rural settings - Evening appointments. - BBV Testing - Needle exchange, including harm minimisation advice and support - Recovery care planning - Referrals to residential detox and/or rehabilitation - Pregnancy testing - Chlamydia testing - Recovery focussed substitute prescribing - Relaxation and rheiki

All the staff at HOMER Andover work holistically meaning that we work with an individual’s lifestyle, not just the substance misuse issues.

We work very closely with partner agencies to build holistic packages of care to meet the needs of each individual service user. We invite many of these agencies including Job Centre Plus, Education centres, local businesses, and housing providers to facilitate clinics within our service, thus creating a holistic one stop shop.

We are a multi-disciplined team, with a comprehensive skill mix, with peer mentors and volunteers, who are all available to assist people on their recovery journey and ensure service users have an active voice in their community.

We are flexible to our local community’s needs and review our interventions regularly through feedback and service user meetings.

Within the service we offer a pick and mix needle exchange so that the correct equipment can be tailored to the individuals needs, thereby minimising harm until stabilisation can be achieved. Emergency packs are also available from Boots the Chemist, High St and Lloyds Pharmacy in Shakespeare Avenue
