Who we are

The Cedars is a purpose-built, supported housing project in Canterbury offering low to medium support to individuals who have a history of substance misuse but have achieved abstinence.
The Cedars has seven, self-contained, one bedroom flats. The project is staffed with experienced project workers providing high quality support to individuals with a history of substance misuse.

Canterbury City Council, Supporting People, CRI and in touch are working in partnership to provide a service to motivate individuals who are abstinent from illegal substances and/or alcohol and wish to work towards becoming independent of services.

Independent Living Statement.
This service is committed to the promotion of independence. Service users are encouraged to make positive choices to develop their life skills in a safe environment and to free themselves from dependence and reliance on others and to direct their own affairs.

The service offers accommodation to those aged 18 - 65 who may have completed primary treatment or be fully engaged with relevant substance misuse agencies.

The project aims to provide a range of interventions that will reduce the likelihood of relapse, enhance social skills and sense of self-worth and focus explicitly upon developing independent living skills. The service actively encourages meaningful use of time through engagement in voluntary work, education, training and community involvement.

The emphasis is upon helping individuals to develop the skills necessary to manage their lives without the use of illegal substances and/or alcohol, and to return to independent living and employment.

Aim: To encourage and support individuals to maintain abstinence and return to independent living.
