Brief Intervention Worker

Southampton Alcohol Service

£21,145 - £24,817 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week


CRI are recruiting a Brief Intervention Worker to join the Southampton Alcohol Brief Intervention and Counselling Service. Delivery is focused on high quality, high volume interventions targeted to support and enable change amongst the estimated 130,000 people drinking to hazardous and harmful levels within the city.

We are looking for a Brief Intervention Worker who will be committed to maximising access across the diverse population of the city, working within the local community to develop links and opportunities for change.

The post holder will be committed to taking a positive, holistic and empowering approach and will work with service users, alongside a team of mentors and volunteers, to enable service users to reduce alcohol use and/or initiate recovery from alcohol dependence, building recovery capital.

BIT Workers will contribute to the reduction of alcohol intake in the city of Southampton, through focused provision at appropriate points within the community.

Health Promotion, Brief Interventions – group or one-to-one, Use of screening and audit tools and Telehealth activities to reduce alcohol related harm to the individual, their families and the wider community.

The promotion of healthier lives, wellbeing and active citizenship. BIT workers will work to ensure that individual targets around reduction in alcohol intake are met and exceeded.

Ensuring best practice is adhered to in relation to health and safety, and safeguarding (children and vulnerable adults) and working to create and sustain effective joint working relationships with partner agencies.

Linking with current service user involvement mechanisms and supporting the work of Peer Mentors and Volunteers within the service. BIT workers will work to promote and develop Recovery Community Links and to support the development of individual Recovery Capital.

Meeting all monitoring and reporting requirements and using evidenced based interventions based on best practice guidelines

The team will be community-based working from peripatetic sites around the city and in partnership with a range of local agencies and support providers.

Post holders will need to have a flexible approach and to participate in regular out of hours cover and evening duties.
