Hastings and Rother Substance Misuse Team

Who we are

Hastings and Rother community substance team. Responsible for delivering high quality substance misuse interventions in the community working in partnership with Sussex NHS trust. To engage substance misusers in effective treatment reducing the risk of harm and offending behaviour to the individual and the wider community.

The service provide tier 2 interventions needle exchange, open access advice and information. Tier 3 specialist prescribing. Structured day programme and care coordination.

Hastings an Rother community substance misuse team:

Offering a range of intervention for Substance misusers in Hastings and Rother. Referrals can be from professionals or self referral by phone or just walk in the building.

Services provided: In line with NICE clinical guidance.

  • Tier 2 Open access advice and information, needle exchange working to a harm minimisation philosophy to reduce harm to both the individual and the local community.
  • Working with stimulant users using motivational interviewing techniques and brief solution focused therapy to enable them to make positive lifestyle changes.
  • Tier 3 Specialist prescribing, Care coordination, prescribing substitute medication to enable people to reduce their illicit drug use stabilise and detoxification support.
  • Structured day programme in partnership with probation, offering a range of interventions working with offenders to reduce their illicit drug use identify links between their drug use and the connection with their offending behaviour.
  • Care co ordination working with substance misusers to identify issues relating to their illicit drug use and work with them to address these issues using cognitive behavioural therapy, ITEP and other recognised approaches.
  • We have a social worker based within the building who can assess needs for tier 4 residential treatment.
  • Intensive DIP working with Sussex police operating a test on arrest service in Hastings police station.

What we do

Recovery co-ordination
Dedicated staff are available for anyone requiring recovery co-ordination. We offer support to the individual in sustaining recovery. Working with the individual, the recovery co-ordinator will offer information, advice and guidance, with links to the local community. This assists recovery and reintegration.
