The Project engages individuals within Neighbourhood Renewal communities who misuse drugs and alcohol and who do not access treatment services through traditional routes. To support these individuals into treatment and to enable better, more appropriate access to all treatment services in the city.
The outreach project engages with the wider community via community forums, action groups, residents associations and individuals around their concerns relating to drug and alcohol use, and any accompanying anti social behaviour or accommodation issues that arise. With the support of Brighton and Hove DAAT, the project ensures that communities are being listened to and that action is being taken to address any such concerns.
The assertive outreach model is integral to the success of the project as well the use of an eclectic mix of evidence based techniques which include brief solution focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic techniques. General advice and harm minimisation information is also often given to clients. The project can work in a flexible manner and is easily accessible to clients. The outreach service contributes to a multi-agency approach involving partner agencies across the city. This has been possible due to the forging of strong links with other services across the city.
