Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is responsible for guiding the development of high quality services that offer opportunities for people to make permanent, positive changes to their lives and reduce crime within our communities.
CRI is both a charity and a company limited by guarantee, and Trustees have specific legal and financial responsibilities. The Board of Trustees meets bi-monthly for half a day at locations chosen to suit members, usually London or Brighton. Trustees may also be asked to attend functions on behalf of CRI. The role is voluntary but Trustees receive travelling expenses.
CRI is always looking for new Board members who have the skills and experience to support its future development.
We are interested in people with a background in business management, and experience of strategic planning and managing growth. We are also looking for people with an understanding of our core service areas including substance misuse, crime and homelessness.

Chair - David Gregson is part-time Chair of private equity firm Phoenix Equity Partners. Mr Gregson is a Director of Letts Filofax and the Olympic Park Legacy Company; and Chair of Precise Media Group. David is also a trustee of both WWF-UK and The Climate Group and a member of the Advisory Board of The Sutton Trust.
Vice Chair - Nicholas Reeves BA, FCMI, FInstLM, MEPS, MICPEM is the Principal Director of an executive management development consultancy specialising in organisational, team, personal learning and development for senior executives together with coaching. Nick advises organisations on risk assessment, contingency planning and critical incident management. Before becoming independent he spent over 30 years in the public sector holding numerous senior appointments, the last as Associate Director at the Leadership Academy for Policing, delivering senior and strategic leadership programmes.
Sir David Calvert-Smith is a High Court judge and is currently one of the presiding judges of the South Eastern Circuit. He was called to the bar in 1969 and has been involved with criminal law ever since. From 1998 to 2003 he was DPP and Head of the Crown Prosecution Service. In 2004-5, he headed the Commission for Racial Equality’s Formal Investigation into the Police Service of England & Wales.
Paul Fallon retired in 2007 following a 35-year career in Social Services. His final post was Director of Social Services and Head of Children and Families Services for the London Borough of Barnet. As chair of the ADSS's Children and Families Policy Committee (2005-2007) he advised government on policy and legislation. Paul now provides management consultancy to local authorities and has helped establish the National Academy for Parenting Practitioners. He is a non-executive director of Pathway Care and the independent chair of the Safeguarding Children's Board for Essex.
Deborah Loudon MA(Oxon), FCIPD has had a thirty year career in Whitehall covering criminal justice policy, defence and HR. Her career highlights include reforming the internal prison disciplinary system, working on legislation and in ministerial offices, negotiating pay with the Police Federation, helping to establish the Black Police Association, working on the development of Professional Skills for Government, and helping to establish successful HR shared services in the MoD. She left the civil service at the end of 2007 and is currently a consultant and head of government practice with a successful executive search agency working across the public and private sectors.
Andrew Marsden BSc(Hons), DUniv, FCIM, FRSA is an experienced leader with over 20 years' board experience. He has held management responsibility for a broad corporate portfolio including innovation, research and development and corporate communications at plc level, in addition to both brand and customer marketing. Andrew has a non-executive portfolio and also heads up his own international brand and business consulting firm. He is a former President of the Marketing Society and Chairman of the Institute of Promotional Marketing and member of the Governmental Advisory Committee on Advertising. He recently chaired the Advertising Standards Authority review of the codes governing marketing communications in the UK.
Moira Nangle has her own Organisation Development consultancy working primarily in the areas of talent and leadership, coaching, customer service and turning strategy into action. Until 2008 she was director of organisational development at Virgin Atlantic Airways. She has qualifications in training, teaching and organisational behaviour and management experience in both the commercial and voluntary sectors.
Chris Newell is a barrister who worked for many years as a prosecuting lawyer. He retired in 2009 as Principal Legal Advisor to the Director of Public Prosecutions. His career also included two secondments to the Attorney General’s Office. He is a trustee of two other charitable organisations.
Roger Perkin MA(Cantab), FCA has spent 40 years in the accounting profession. He is a former partner of Ernst & Young where he worked with many blue chip clients and advised the boards of a wide range of financial services companies including banking, insurance, fund management and private equity. Since retiring he has taken on non-executive director roles at Nationwide Building Society, Electra Private Equity Plc and Evolution Group Plc, chairing the audit committees of each. He is also a trustee of Chiddingstone Castle.
Professor Mike Pringle Mike Pringle is Professor of General Practice in the University of Nottingham. He is revalidation clinical lead for the RCGP where he was Chair of Council from 1998-2001 and where he is now Chair of the RCGP Trustee Board. Mike is a board member of UK Biobank, helps to run CHEC an innovative primary care development project and is Strategic Director of PRIMIS+.
Varinder Singh FCA, FCCA is a fellow of the ICAEW and also of the ACCA. He was a partner in a professional accountancy practice. He had also spent fourteen years in industry as finance director of a group of private companies. His professional and commercial experience includes management, auditing and accountancy, taxation, Inland Revenue investigations, share valuations, forensic accounting and due diligence work. He has also had extensive experience in commercial litigation.
Jacob West BA (Hons), MPP is currently Director of Strategy for King's College Hospital Foundation Trust. Before joining King's, Jacob was Deputy Director and latterly Acting Director at the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit, where he worked for six years. His role was to advise Number 10 and the Prime Minister on a range of domestic policy issues, and he was lead adviser on health policy since 2007.
