More than 130 service users and staff attended a conference in July devised by representatives from the London Service User Council.

The Service User Council chose the theme of recovery and had a big input into the content and running order for the conference, which was held at Conway Hall in London. An opening speech on recovery by CRI Chief Executive, David Royce set the theme for a lively programme of guest speakers and interactive workshops, including one run by the popular Outside Edge drama group. Three lucky service users won prizes of £20; vouchers for ideas contributed to the suggestion box on the day.

"It is always exciting to attend service user events," said David Royce. "I came away inspired and reminded of my sense of vocation and purpose."

Robert Chick, Service User Support Worker, said: "July's Service User Conference was a resounding success and really empowering for the Service User Council. The conference was a wonderful blend of structured information and discussion, making for a well-balanced concoction of information and fun that ensured that the day was enjoyed by all.

"The recovery theme and content of the day was both informative and motivating for all who came along and we hope this continues and reverberates from the conference right back to the attendees' individual projects," Robert explained.

CRI continues to show its ongoing commitment to service user involvement on a large scale by enabling the Service User Council to have a big input into the content of the day. A second conference will be held later this year.
