Brighton Festival goers are being offered advice on how to enjoy the festival season without problems caused by drug and alcohol use.
CRI’s Health Promotion Team in Brighton is running a campaign during the May festivals to encourage people to enjoy themselves safely. Campaign activities include humorous pavement stickers designed by university students, a stall at the Jubilee Library, service information stickers in festival venues, and a Twitterfeed @thinkdrinkdrugs.
The team aims to reduce the damaging effects of drugs and alcohol by encouraging people to think about how they can get the best out of the festival entertainment, without harming their health or limiting their enjoyment.
Lucy Basterra, CRI Health Promotion Practitioner, said: “Brighton and Hove has around 1,400 licensed premises, with more set up during the festivals, so this time of year is a perfect opportunity to highlight some of the risks associated with drugs and alcohol. In particular, the risks associated with mixing other substances - legal or illegal - with alcohol.”
The Health Promotion Team’s campaign will run alongside the arts festivals to encourage people to stay safe on a night out and let them know where to get local help for drug and alcohol issues, for themselves or a loved one.
Visit www.thinkdrinkdrugs.com for more information, including an interactive alcohol screening tool, a directory of local services and up-to-date information on ‘legal’ and illegal drugs.
The Brighton Festival runs from 4-26 May and the Fringe Festival from 4 May to 2 June.
