Lowry famously designed the cover of The Clash’s seminal 1979 album London Calling and his witty, playful cartoons have appeared in the Guardian, NME and Private Eye. An exhibition (also called London Calling) will pay tribute to his life and work.
Works by contemporary British artists Tracey Emin and Humphrey Ocean are also part of the exhibition, hanging alongside pieces by comedian Harry Hill and Stone Roses guitarist John Squire.
An auction of many of the artworks on show will take place when the exhibition closes at the end of September, with all proceeds going to CRI Inspire East Lancashire’s music academy.
Needless to say, we are extremely grateful for this partnership between Inspire Rawtenstall and the Ray Lowry Foundation, and are thrilled that our service users will benefit from their generous donation.
The exhibition is at The Whitaker museum and art gallery in Rossendale until Saturday 27th September 2014.
