CRI takes on Hertfordshire services

2012-02-10 Drug and Alcohol

New and improved drug and alcohol treatment for Hertfordshire
CRI will take over the drug and alcohol recovery services for Hertfordshire County Council from 1 April 2012.

The services will offer integrated drug and alcohol support from bases in several towns across Hertfordshire, including Stevenage, Royston, Hertford, Cheshunt, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and Watford. The services will provide a full range of support options to help adults with drug and alcohol misuse problems. These will range from advice and information to structured treatment programmes.

Sustainable recovery that results in people leading fulfilled lives and contributing to their communities is the key objective of the service. We support service users' families, carers and friends throughout their journey, minimising the harm caused by drug and alcohol use and helping them gain new skills. More than 2000 people are expected to use the services and the positive benefits will undoubtedly extend to their families and communities.

"CRI always places individuals at the centre of their own recovery journey, in order to help them lead independent and purposeful lives," said Kevin Crowley, Director of Operations for London and East at CRI. "Our role is to provide the caring guidance and professional and medical support that underpins self-belief. By integrating the services available to the people of Hertfordshire, we will ensure that it is as easy as possible for people to access the full range of support they need: from treatment for drug and alcohol misuse to advice on training and employment."

"CRI's experience of delivering drug and alcohol recovery services that make service users and the local community its key priorities will mean that the transition from the existing network of services to the new integrated service will be handled with great care and professionalism," commented Colette Wyatt-Lowe, Cabinet Member for Health and Community Services. "We are moving into a new era in the provision of drug and alcohol services throughout Hertfordshire and we are delighted to have chosen CRI to lead the way."

"The alcohol and drug services are a priority for the health and wellbeing of the residents of Hertfordshire and we welcome this new service," added Raymond Jankowski, Deputy Director of Public Health for NHS Hertfordshire.
