CRI's new suite of services for adults with drug and alcohol problems living in Slough has been formally launched. The launch was attended by local partnership agencies including Probation, GPs, social services, community mental health services, the Police, housing agencies, jobcentres and local education providers.
Visitors heard about changes in the design of services commissioned by Slough DAAT and the positive impact these will have on Slough service users.
Service users from the structured day care programme enthusiastically described their engagement in the treatment process and demonstrated the work they have undertaken on their road to recovery.
One service user said: "It was a good day and I spoke to a lot of people. Coming into treatment is a must in your recovery; it's the best thing that ever happened to me. The family service is great, don't be afraid of it."
CRI began providing three new Tier 3 treatment services in April - psychosocial interventions, clinical care coordination and an intensive family engagement and support service.
The psychosocial intervention service provides a range of group and one-to-one drug and alcohol programmes, all with a strong recovery focus and delivered from a range of community locations. CRI is also responsible for the clinical care coordination of medically assisted recovery clinics, run in partnership with a local GP practice. Shared care and community alcohol detoxification complete the service offer for this element of the contract.
The intensive family engagement and support service provides intensive daily support to some of the most vulnerable families in Slough. This new service is delivered through a combination of practical support and structured therapeutic interventions, designed to motivate families with complex needs to lead more stable and constructive lives.
CRI is also providing training for volunteers counsellors who wish to gain experience or working in substance misuse and peer mentor training for service users who wish to move forward in their recovery.
Nic Baker, CRI Deputy Director, said: "The launch was an opportunity to promote CRI's new services in Slough. These new services have consolidated and built on our existing presence in the town and are an exciting opportunity to use our expertise to extend and improve services for local people."
