Growing Recovery in the Community

A market garden opened on 30 May at the heart of the Halton recovery community, introducing local people who are addressing their drug or alcohol use to a new and productive skill.

The garden is on land donated by Halton Borough Council and is led by the local Halton Service User Group at CRI, a health and social care charity working with individuals, families and communities across Halton who are affected by drugs, alcohol, crime and homelessness.

The project was launched by the Halton Service User Group and staff working at Ashley House. The aim of the initiative is to aid people’s recovery and establish positive links in the community, as well as helping to build awareness and introduce the skill of growing and maintaining an allotment plot.

Halton Borough Council has donated a plot of land at Ditton Allotment and has secured funding for equipment. Councillors Adele Clarke, Stan Hill and Pamela Wallace attended the launch with staff and service users from Ashley House.

Rob Mason, Ashley House recovery champion said: "We’ve planted the seed of recovery in the Halton Community, thanks to all involved we are now going to be able to grow our own produce and help those in need.”
