Prison Pathways to Recovery Service Goes Live

CRI began to deliver its successful Pathways to Recovery drug treatment and recovery service in two Warrington prisons - HMP Risley and HMYOI Thorn Cross – in January.

The Pathways to Recovery service will offer service users in prison the opportunity to address their substance misuse and develop effective strategies for achieving and sustaining change. The service combines clinical prescribing with an interactive, structured recovery programme that incorporates care planning and psychosocial interventions to promote change in thinking and behaviour.

The CRI team already provides the Integrated Drug Treatment Service in Warrington’s prisons and has completed nearly 300 successful detoxes in prison, since the service started in July 2009.

Shirley Riley, Deputy Director North & Midlands, CRI, said: “CRI has demonstrated that it can provide high quality and effective interventions in prison and the community that make a real difference to people’s lives. We are delighted to now be able to extend our successful community drug and alcohol recovery service in Warrington prisons.

“Our ambition is to offer service users in prison exactly the same high standards of treatment and care that we provide to service users in the community - the only difference being that the prison service is delivered ‘behind the wall’.  It is very early days, but we are pleased that the governors, staff and prisoners already share our enthusiasm, vision and ambition for the future.”
