The Suffolk Recovery Service, which is run by healthcare charities CRI and Open Road, will greet Lowestoft shoppers next week [4th and 5th February] to raise awareness with local residents on the risks of drinking alcohol.
Members of CRI Suffolk Recovery Service and Open Road will offer advice to shoppers, hand out drink wheels and ask curious consumers about their alcohol consumption knowledge. They will have a stand set up outside the Britten Centre in Lowestoft between 11am and 3pm on the 4th and 5th of February.
Lesley McConville, CRI Lowestoft Project Manager said:
“We especially wanted to target consumers coming in or out from their weekly shop, who might be buying alcohol for weekend parties or gatherings. Many people may have a few drinks as part of socialising over dinner, but most people are unaware of what a safe amount of alcohol to drink is and will end up consuming one bottle instead of one glass.
“The consequence of too much alcohol consumption for most is usually an unpleasant hangover, which while certainly not an enjoyable experience for the individual it isn’t doing their health much good either.
“People also forget that alcohol is the second biggest risk factor for cancer after smoking, and that’s why we will be trying to raise awareness so that people can make informed decisions about their drinking habits.”
The Suffolk Recovery Services in Lowestoft offer a range of treatment and support services for adults who have concerns about their drug or alcohol use, including a walk-in service open to the public.
