An awareness-raising roadshow organised by CRI has been nominated for a Quality in Care for Hepatitis C award.
The 'Love Yourself - Get Tested' roadshow, organised by CRI's HOMER service in Hampshire, is up for an award in the 'Best Patient Support Programme' category.
HOMER organised the roadshow with support from the Hepatitis C trust. Taking place in Valentine's week, it invited people to love themselves by getting tested for Hepatitis C.
Hepatitis C can go undiagnosed for many years, with symptoms sometimes taking a decade to appear.
The disease has been called a 'silent killer': if left untreated, it can lead to cirhossis, liver failure and liver cancer.
The roadshow, which offered a simple mouth swab test, targetted at-risk groups and raised awareness of Hepatitis C across Hampshire, where an estimated 23,000 people have the disease.
The QiC Hepatitis C awards will be presented at BASL 2014 in Newcastle on Tuesday 16 September.
