Prisons
We work in a number of UK prisons to support people who have problems with substance use. Our aim is to enable individuals to stop or reduce their drug taking so as to reduce the harm to them and help prevent their reoffending.
We support people in prisons to consider the effects of their drug use on their own and other people’s lives and use psychosocial interventions to encourage people to make positive changes in their behaviour.
Services are delivered through one-to-one and group work and cover topics such as drug and alcohol awareness, relapse prevention, harm minimisation - including overdose advice and testing for blood borne viruses - healthy living skills and relaxation techniques.
We also work with offenders and their families to help rebuild damaged family relationships and support families to remain together.
Working with offenders to plan for their release back into the community is also an important element of our support. This involves preparing people for release and ensuring that there is continuity of care and treatment in the community when they get out.
Our prison services include:
DART (HMP Lewes): providing multi-disciplinary, multi-agency support for offenders with drug and alcohol problems as well as a resettlement service for people returning to the community.
Pathways to Recovery (HMP Belmarsh, Warrington prisons – HMP Risley and HM YOI Thorn Cross): which delivers structured treatment for offenders with substance misuse problems, support to rebuild family relationships and a peer mentor training programme.
Prison Recovery Service North Lancashire (HMP Kirkham and HM YOI Lancaster Farms): providing recovery focused treatment for offenders with substance misuse and alcohol problems.
