Legal high
Psychedelics/hallucinogens
How do people take psychedelic legal highs?
Legal highs come in a variety of forms from liquids to powders and can be sniffed, injected, swallowed or smoked
- Name
- Psychedelics/hallucinogens
- Also known as
- Type of drug
- Legal high
- Many of these substances are new and so it is not possible to say what they effects will be.
- Psychedelic or hallucinogenic ‘legal highs’ are likely to have a similar effect to illegal psychedelics like LSD, magic mushrooms and ketamine.
- Psychedelics/hallucinogens can alter your perceptions so that you see and/or hear things that aren’t there.
- This change in perception can make you feel warm and happy and give a sense of not really being in the world. They can also make you feel like your mind and body are not connected.
- Just because they are legal does not mean they are safe. You cannot know what is in the substance you are taking so it is impossible to know whether it is safe.
- Former legal high psychedelics like NBOMe are now banned.
- The risks of taking these drugs include confusion, panic attacks and unpleasant sensations from having a bad trip.
- People can behave dangerously and hurt themselves, or others, while under the influence of psychedelics.
Just because something is classified as legal does not mean that is safe or legal. Some legal highs contain substances that are themselves illegal.
